PumpServ continues to grow at a pace

Wed 26 Jun 2019

Although the name PumpServ may be relatively new, having previously been London Pumps for nearly 20 years, the business has now rebranded to reflect the fact that it operates nationwide and not just in London.

Despite being a major player in the pump service and distribution industry now, it began with two partners in 1999 operating from a second floor warehouse in Brentford Middlesex. Matt Magee, one of those partners and now CEO, recalls how they had to use a ‘dodgy’ goods lift to get pumps into the workshop.

The company quickly established itself by servicing FM companies and local authorities carrying out emergency responses to failed pumping systems. In 2002 it moved into workshop and offices premises in Kingston, Surrey.

The wellbeing and personal development of the staff has always been at the forefront of everything the company does; examples of this can be found in Tim Ishmael and Dean Lovell who have been with the company for 19 of the 20 years and Chrissie Spry who joined the company in 2003. Dean starting as a fitters mate and progressing to Operations Manager, whilst Tim also started as a fitters mate and has now risen to Service Estimator.

The company recently held a 20 year celebration event in Richmond Surrey, where many of the staff were present.

As the business grew it became necessary to relocate to larger and more centrally located premises. The company moved into a modern warehouse and offices in Morden in 2010,  enabling them to grow both sales and service offerings, They started selling pump packages to M&E customers in 2012 and this has grown to £4.5m turnover accounting for 50% of the business.

In 2017  “Keltic Engineering Group” was created with a view to acquisition and PumpServ became part of the group. This led to the acquisition of Fenflow Ltd. in Spalding Lincolnshire and a 50% stake in Pump Services Surrey Ltd., accelerating the combined Group turnover to £12m.

Currently the group employs over 75 people and has nationwide coverage with a new warehouse and offices in Hampshire, and regional staff based Northeast, Southwest and the Midlands of the UK.

PumpServ is a distributor for all major pump brands such as Grundfos, Wilo, Xylem, Dab and is one of the top 3 independent distributors in the UK.

The company has delivered some varied contracts over the years, working closely with housing associations and mechanical services contractors. Recently completed projects include Crossrail Farringdon, a very large supply and install waste water project for NG Bailey, and work has recently commenced at Bond Street Crossrail where the company was successful in securing both the clean water (supply) and supply & installation of waste water packages.

Last year PumpServ opened new offices in Alton Hampshire in order to better service the waste water market for new packaged pump products. This created four additional positions and promoted existing staff. PumpServ is already seeing the rewards having just secured supply and installation contracts at Battersea Power Station for their waste water packages.

PumpServ CEO Matt Magee said “we are continually looking at ways in which we can increase our growth and further develop the reputation and awareness of our brand within our industry sector”.
